Why I Choose Metabolic Training
While there are many reasons for my move away from the insurance industry (after 12 years), there is one that stands out above the rest: Metabolic and the metabolic training philosophy changed my life and more people need access to this transformational fitness concept and community.
What’s up, guys? My first full week here at Metabolic, you could see over my shoulder.
I first want to say thank you to everyone who sent incredible notes, messages, direct messages, texts, emails, calls, just tons of kind words and congratulation on making a move.
Many of you didn’t know what that move was. You just knew that I was leaving the insurance industry. Actually, the LinkedIn video got 123,000 views, so I don’t know why I had to leave the insurance industry to go viral, but it just was very humbling and meaningful to me, and I just want to say thank you to all of you.
More importantly, I wanted to share why I joined Metabolic.
Metabolic is a fitness studio program. It’s a class setting. It’s strength-based training at a pace. As some of you who followed my content closely in the past know, Metabolic has changed my life.
In particular, about 18 months ago, I lost close to 30 pounds by watching my diet, obviously, was a big part of it, and taking this workout seriously, showing up between four to six times a week, and matching that workout program with both intensity during the workout and a firm focus on what I was eating and changing my diet more for fuel and to sculpt the type of body that I wanted so that I could have life strength.
That’s really why I love this place is that it helps you build strength for life, things like… I don’t ever want to be a bodybuilder, but I do want to be able to play with my kids for two hours and not feel exhausted or like I can’t pick them up anymore because my muscles are too tired. What this workout has done has given me that.
About six weeks ago, the founder of this company, his name is Matt Phelps, he’s an incredible guy.
He’s been my strength and fitness and health guru for five years since I first joined his gym. I’ve watched him grow it from a single location with 150 people to now six locations and more than 2,500 members. It’s been incredible to watch his journey.
When he sat down, and he said, “Ryan, I want to take this workout program national. I want you to help me do that from a corporate and business side so that I can focus on continuing to make sure that the workout is as high quality as anything that exists in the world,” I was blown away.
It was an opportunity I didn’t expect. We had never spoken about it before, though we had spoken about business many times.
It was an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up because while some of you mentioned that my move from insurance to fitness couldn’t have been a farther, I couldn’t have moved farther away, I disagree with that. The work that people do in the insurance industry, for me, it was never about the insurance. It was always about the people.
It was about the people in the insurance industry and the fact that hundreds of thousands of amazing individuals had dedicated their lives to protecting the assets of people in ways that they would never fully appreciate. They did that over and over and over again.
If I could help them with sales or marketing or technology or inspire them to show up and be the best version of themselves that they could be, that made every day meaningful. Every day that I was in the insurance industry was meaningful.
Coming over here to the fitness space and now being able to do that every day through mental and physical strength and emotional strength and helping people understand what it means to show up at a program like this and exert yourself in a high-intensity environment and do that with a group of people who share your passion for physical and mental strength, and though I’ll never be a trainer, I’ll never actually teach this program, being able to help those that do, doing it in a more efficient way, provide them with the tools and resources to be able to help more people and expose more individuals in the country and maybe someday the world to what Metabolic training is in particular, what this form of Metabolic training is and can do for your life, to me, is the opportunity of a lifetime.
It’s why I couldn’t pass it up.
To be honest with you, I’m a week into this job, and it’s like a dream. I couldn’t be happier. I couldn’t be happier about the people that I’m working with and to be working side-by-side with a guy like Matt Phelps and crew that he’s amassed here. Again, I just, humbled, once again, to be part of. I just feel blessed. My life is blessed. I get to… I don’t have to be on airplanes as much. I could be home with my children and my family and my wife and spend time with these people that I love. It just… This is what I’m doing now.
I’m hoping that in the relatively near future, 12, 18, 24 months, there’ll be a Metabolic near you, and you can experience this and be part of it because, I’ll tell you, when you dedicate yourself to something like this type of strength-based training, your whole vantage point on the world changes for the better. You appreciate life and people and your own body and your own health more. It’s very, very meaningful work. Like I said, I feel blessed.
What I hope is if you’re into this stuff at all, there’s only going to be more to come, more from me, more from other people inside this organization who know about physical, emotional, and mental strength, even more than I do, certainly physical strength, much more that I do. We’re going to be sharing their stories and giving you all kinds of tools and resources whether you workout inside a Metabolic gym or not.
What I hope is that you’ll follow us here on LinkedIn or on Facebook or on Instagram.
That’s a great way to follow us, but Facebook and LinkedIn are as well. Hope you’ll continue to follow and connect with me and ask me questions as I go through this journey and share lots of resources and that we just stay connected. I love you guys. I always have. I always will. For anyone who’s just catching me for the first time, I love you too.
I appreciate you guys. Look forward to sharing this journey with you. All the best.
I’m out of here.
